Outline of events shown or mentioned so far, sorted by story arcs in chronological order (instead of narrative order), including flashbacks or time jumps, and relevant content from volume extras or spinoff chapters. To maintain focus on the chronology, focus has been placed on the order of events, so note that summaries for some events may be incomplete.

Specific times given directly in canon are bolded, while estimated times are given in italics. Reference chapters are given in brackets where relevant.

Pre-canon[]

[Order of events in this section is very approximate, as specific times are often not given.]

Early history[]

  • Minamoto no Yorimitsu ([[1]]) defeats the Shuten-douji (Chapter 3) and takes in No. 6 (Chapter 88).
  • A small village stands where Kamome Academy is now, with both the Minamoto and Akane families and No.6 already present. The Akane family provided daughters to use a sacrifices, and No.6 kept watch to avoid them escaping (Chapter 70).
    • Teru's description seems to imply that No.6 only became one of the Seven Mysteries some time after this, though he kept the same aim of protecting the land.
    • Young Sumire asks No.6 to promise to stay with her forever (Chapter 66).
  • Young Yako meets Misaki, who is teaching at the schoolhouse (likely before the Meiji era reforms of the 19th century).
    • Nene sees the memory of their photo-taking after destroying Yako's yorishiro (Chapter 7).

Since 1950s (Amane and Tsukasa)[]

  • November 25, 1956: Amane and Tsukasa are born.
  • Tsukasa starts offering presents to their house to give Amane more time to live.
  • November 25, 1959: Tsukasa and Amane celebrate their 4th birthday with their parents, Tsukasa sacrifices himself to the Red House in order to save Amane from his sickness.
  • 1960: Amane finds the lunar rock when he is around 4 years old.
  • Tsukasa returns home after having gone missing for 6 months. The Yugi twin's mother starts to believe Tsukasa is no longer her son and takes him to a temple, Tsukasa then grants 'Kunishige-kun's wish' which was for the temple's head priest to die.
  • Amane and Tsukasa watch a movie together, about the attack of artificial humans (Chapter 34).
  • July 7, 1964: Amane is of elementary school age, and attends the Star Festival at Kamome 1-chome with Tsukasa, who gets occupied playing games. Meanwhile, Amane meets Nene and eats dinner with her, and Nene gives him the tags she collected at the boundary Star Festival. After Nene returns to the present, Amane writes a wish to meet her again, instead of wishing to become an astronaut like he had first intended (Chapter 38).
    • This assumes that Nene did travel back in time from the boundary Star Festival, rather than having only dreamed the event while unconscious.
  • 1968: Amane and Tsukasa enter Kamome Academy's middle school division.
    • They take their entrance ceremony photo together, holding hands (Volume 4 extra).
  • 1969: Amane is in Class 2-2, with Tsuchigomori as his form teacher (Chapter 13).
  • Amane has a career guidance session with Tsuchigomori, where Amane says that his favorite subject is Health and PE (Volume 3 extra).
  • July 18, 1969: After Apollo 11's successful launch. Amane is alone crying in the classroom that evening when Nene arrives. Nene picks up a key with a rocket keychain (that Amane drops when he runs off), but Hanako's hakujoudai brings her back to the present before she can return it.
    • Nene travels here through the classroom door after the tea party (Chapter 22).
  • July 22, 1969: The day after the moon landing, Amane gives Tsuchigomori the lunar rock in the classroom that evening.
    • Nene sees the memory after destroying Tsuchigomori's yorishiro (Chapter 13–14).
  • Amane kills Tsukasa. He dies, and eventually becomes Hanako, No.7 of the Seven Mysteries.
  • Kou's grandmother seals "Hanako-san of the Toilet" away (Chapter 3).
  • Hanako is, allegedly, told by god that his sin would be erased if he fulfils his duties (Chapter 3).

Since 1980s (Shijima Mei)[]

  • Unlike Amane's case, little is known about exactly when Mei was alive. The main clue is Mei's student identification card in Chapter 53, which states that she was born in the Showa era (1989 or earlier), though the number is indistinct. The following assumes that her birth year is 1983, or Showa 58.
    • This is consistent with Mei's middle school entrance ceremony photo, as the background matches Nene's rather than Amane's, suggesting that it is more recent (Chapter 44, vs Volume 4 extra).
    • AidaIro posted Twitter art of Mei having fallen asleep while making greeting cards for the 1999 new year, confirming that she was alive during this period. A drawing resembling Shijima can be seen on her sketchbook, though it is unclear whether this was before or after Shijima was created.
  • 1983: Mei is born.
  • 1996: Mei enters Kamome Academy's middle school division.
  • 1999: Mei enters the high school division.
  • 2000: Mei enters her second year of high school, and picks the art course, intending to go to an art university with her parents' support.
  • 2001–2002: Mei is in Class 3-E of the high school division, but dies before her graduation (Chapter 53).
    • Mei is hospitalized with severe illness but continues to draw, painting the atelier tower for an assignment. Shijima is created when Mei imagines her alternate, healthy self within the tower.
    • During this time, Mei has a dream set in a hospital (with a room similar to hers in real life), and meets Nene and Shijima. Shijima tries to kill Mei to prevent her from finishing the tower painting, and tells Mei that she will die. Despite this, Mei chooses to leave the dream world and wake up, which also returns Nene and Shijima to the Esoragoto world (Chapter 55).
      • Shijima and Nene are transported here by Tsukasa when he fulfils Shijima's wish to meet Mei again (Chapter 52).
      • The sketchbook Mei has in the hospital eventually becomes Shijima's yorishiro (Chapter 58).
  • The tower painting is displayed in the art room along with the other students' artwork, while Shijima is there as an ordinary ghost after Mei's death. However, someone begins a rumor that Mei killed herself due to her family's opposition, causing Shijima to become No.4 of the Seven Mysteries (Chapter 54).

Since late 1990s (Nene, Kou, and the others)[]

Kamome Academy's school year is assumed to run from around April to March (see additional notes at end of page).

  • 17 years ago: Teru is born (Volume 2 extra).
  • 15–16 years ago: Nene, Aoi, Akane, and Lemon are born.
  • 14 years ago: Kou is born (Volume 2 extra), as are Yokoo and Satou (Chapter 23), and presumably Mitsuba.
  • 12-13 years ago: Akane and Aoi move and live next to each other, becoming childhood friends (Chapter 84)
    • Aoi is often called out to unpopulated places by others with ill intentions, but Akane always protects her (Chapter 24).
    • Akane receives Hanitaro from Aoi a long time before canon (Chapter 29).

  • 3 academic years ago: Nene, Aoi, Akane, and Lemon enter the middle school division. Teru is a second year while Sakura is a third year.
    • Nene has short hair, and takes her middle school entrance ceremony photo with a man and woman, presumably her parents (Volume 4 extra).
    • Nene is three minutes late on the day of her middle school entrance ceremony. Some time later, she befriends Aoi, her first friend in school (Chapter 11).
    • Nene begins to like the boy that she later confesses to (Chapter 1).
    • Nene begins keeping a one-person exchange diary in middle school (Chapter 12).
    • On the day of their middle school entrance ceremony, Akane becomes one of the Clock Keepers on a six-year contract, in order to save Aoi from an accident. Akane gets the pocket watch, and later finds out that the entire incident was staged by the other Clock Keepers (Chapter 25).
  • 2 academic years ago: Kou, Mitsuba, Yokoo, and Satou enter the middle school division, and are in the same class for one year. Nene is a second year. Teru is a third year. Sakura enters her first year of the high school division.
    • Kou takes his entrance ceremony photo with Teru and Tiara, and already has the spirit staff. Mitsuba takes his with his mother (Volume 4 extra).
    • Mitsuba introduces himself to Kou on the first day of school, since Mitsuba is seated in front of him (Chapter 18).
    • Kou hears rumors' warning about looking into the mirror as a guilty person, around the time he started school (Chapter 31).
    • Mitsuba joins the photography club, and wins many awards (Chapter 30).
  • Previous academic year: Kou and Mitsuba are their second year, but in different classes (Chapter 18). Nene is a third year. Teru enters his first year of the high school division. Sakura is in her second year of high school.
    • May 1 to July 1, previous calendar year: Mitsuba takes photographs for the gardening club, which Nene and Aoi are members of. Nene has slightly shorter hair, and wears the middle school uniform (Chapter 30).
    • July 7, last year: Yako attends the boundary's Star Festival in human form (Chapter 37).
    • Winter, current calendar year: Mitsuba dies in an accident on the way to get potatoes to make his mother's birthday dinner, and eventually becomes a ghost. His camera is donated and kept in the photography club room (Chapter 18).
  • Current academic year: Kou is in third year, Class 3-1, with Tsuchigomori as his form teacher. Nene enters first year of the high school division, Class 1-A, along with Akane who is the Student Union vice president. Teru is in second year of high school, and is the Student Union president. Natsuhiko is also in second year, Class 2-B (Chapter 21).
    • In his attempts to win Aoi's heart, Akane becomes the best student of their year, becomes vice president of the Student Union, and does strength training, although all his confessions to Aoi fail (Chapter 24).
    • Teru made the special glasses for Akane after Akane entered the Student Union (Chapter 29).
    • One month ago: Nene confesses to the boy she liked since starting middle school, and gets rejected. She appears to be wearing the winter uniform since her dress has long sleeves (Chapter 1).
    • Nene writes about Teru in her one-person exchange diary after a school-wide Student Union assembly (Chapter 12).
    • Teru helps to pick up Nene's pencil case (Chapter 1).

Hanako-san of the Toilet (Chapter 1) []

  • Nene summons Hanako.
    • Hanako is aware of Nene's short lifespan from here on, as Nene would not have been close enough to the far shore to summon him otherwise (Chapter 27).
  • The next day: Teru finds the summer vegetables Nene left on his desk.

The Faeries (Chapter 2) []

  • Preceding events:
    • Fuji and Nene have their first (paperwork) date.
    • The Faerie rumors begins, suggesting that Sakura has already made her bond with Tsukasa by this point, if not earlier.
  • At the beginning of the chapter, a week has passed since Nene became Hanako's assistant, and Fuji has invited her on a second date after school that day.
  • The next day: Nene encounters the Faerie and Hanako defeats it. Nene meets the Mokke.
  • Nene changes the Faerie rumor so no one gets hurt while Kou looks for Hanako.

The Boy Exorcist (Chapter 3) []

  • Hanako and Nene sit on the roof of the school, reading a magazine, Nene dreams of her dream boy falling from the sky.
  • The premiere date of the movie (in the magazine Hanako and Nene are reading) is shown as June 25.
  • Kou jumps down from the roof and attempts to exorcise Hanako, he gets Hanako at a point but Hanako eventually overpowers him and it’s shown that Kou’s weapon hurts him to use.
  • During the fight Kou reveals to Nene that Hanako has killed someone, this is later revealed to be his own twin brother.

The Misaki Stairs Arc (Chapters 4–7) []

  • Aoi and Nene are taking care of the classroom plants when Aoi leaves for her career guidance meeting.
  • The next day: Aoi disappears, and Lemon is now the one in charge of the plants for the summer. Natsuhiko slips a black swan into Nene's pocket when she runs into him. Hanako, Nene, and Kou enter the Misaki Stairs that evening. Nene destroys Yako's yorishiro and sees her memory with Misaki. After her defeat, Yako says that Kou and the missing students will return to normal by the next morning. Meanwhile, the black swan returns to Natsuhiko, and reveals itself to be a kokujoudai when they meet up with Sakura.

The Confession Tree (Chapter 8) []

  • At the beginning of the chapter, Nene says that it is almost a month since she met Hanako. That evening, Hanako asks her to meet him at the Confession Tree after school the next day.
  • The next day: Hanako defeats the Confession Tree.
    • Nene writes a poem after seeing Hanako without his cap for the first time (Chapter 11).
    • The new rumors for the kodama and Misaki Stairs have not yet been decided by this point, but are set by the Searching Arc (Chapter 28–29).

The Young Exorcist Arc (Chapters 9–10)[]

  • A Mokke steals Kou's earring. Teru talks to Kou about exorcising the Seven Mysteries.
  • The next day: Kou skips class to tail Hanako, and they retrieve his earring. Teru attacks Hanako, but Kou defends him. Meanwhile, Nene researches about Hanako in the library, and meets Sakura.

The 4PM Bookstacks Arc (Chapters 11–14) []

  • This arc continues directly from the end of Chapter 10.
  • The next day: Nene and Kou enter the 4PM Bookstacks. Nene reads her book, which mentions several future events – her first date and subsequent breakup, and learning about No.7's true identity. Nene destroys Tsuchigomori's yorishiro and sees his memory with Amane. She wakes up in the infirmary later that night. Tsuchigomori leaves, and Hanako talks to him afterwards.
    • When Aoi is telling Nene about the rumor, the date June 13 is visibly written on the blackboard (though this may be the previous day's date as they are erasing the blackboard).
  • Nene now has a 3-month old hamster named Black Canyon.

The Donuts (Chapter 15) []

  • At the beginning of the chapter, Hanako observes (and Nene herself agrees) that Nene has been acting weirdly since the 4PM Bookstacks Arc, though it is not specified how much time has passed.
  • Likely the next day: Kou excuses them from toilet cleaning, much to Hanako's dismay. Kou and Teru try to make donuts in the home economics room (which Kou had requested permission to use from Tsuchigomori), using ingredients that Teru bought. Kou then comes to find Nene in the practice garden after school, and they make donuts while she tells Kou about what she saw in the 4PM Bookstacks. After Nene leaves with the donuts for Hanako, a grey Mokke sneaks out of the room to meet up with Sakura and Natsuhiko. Nene gives Hanako the donuts on the old school building rooftop, and tells Hanako that she likes him as a friend. However, Hanako's reply is cut off by the appearance of the black swan kokujoudai and Tsukasa.
    • This seems to be Hanako and Tsukasa's first meeting ever since Amane killed him.

The Little Mermaid Arc (Chapters 16–17) []

  • This arc continues directly from the end of Chapter 15. Nene forces Tsukasa to leave. Hanako pushes Nene down, and runs away afterwards. The fishes observe Nene, saying that they have found her.
    • Since Tsukasa spots the fishes and hears them talking, it seems that either the fishes arrived earlier, or Tsukasa is still able to perceive his surroundings even after apparently disappearing.
  • Several days later: During lunch break in the classroom, Nene meets the fishes for the first time. Nene runs out of the classroom, and talks to the fishes near the tower where the Mokkes hid Kou's earring. The fishes give her the mermaid's blood, and say they will return to receive her tomorrow.
    • Hanako is hiding in the science preparation room when Nene goes to Tsuchigomori for advice. Nene says that she hasn't been able to meet Hanako recently.
  • The next day: The fishes come to receive Nene with an entourage. Nene rejects them, but they pull her into the water anyway. Hanako fishes her out. Nene forgives him for the donut incident, and Hanako thanks her for saying that she likes him (the first time he's being told this by a girl). He promises to tell her everything someday.
    • Tsukasa returns to the broadcasting room, where Sakura and Natsuhiko are. Sakura spreads a new rumor, while the fishes appear in the broadcasting room. Natushiko catches the pufferfish, and Tsukasa kills it.
    • The pufferfish had heard from the Mermaid that the rumors of Supernaturals on the near shore have been meddled with recently.
    • Given the subsequent arc, it seems likely that the rumor spread here is about Mitsuba, suggesting that Mitsuba has already made his wish to Tsukasa by this point: that he doesn't want to end just like this, and wants to stay in everyone's memories (Chapter 20).

Mitsuba Arc (Chapters 18–20)[]

  • After school, Yokoo tells Kou about the recent rumors about the entrance hall. Kou catches Mitsuba and brings him to the toilet, where Hanako and Nene are. Hanako tells him to settle Mitsuba's unfinished business. Kou promises to accompany Mitsuba until he finds the photograph that he'd wanted to take before dying. Yokoo finds Kou holding Mitsuba's camera, and tells him about Mitsuba being their classmate. It begins raining, and they go back indoors. Mitsuba asks Kou to accompany him until he develops the photos tomorrow, but Tsukasa interrupts. At Tsukasa's instruction, Sakura spreads the new rumor of Mitsuba with a broken neck. As the price for fulfilling Mitsuba's wish, Tsukasa takes a part of Mitsuba's soul: his sense of reason. Meanwhile, Hanako, Nene, and the Mokke play hanafuda in the toilet, until Hanako is informed by the hakujoudai about the rumor and rushes over to intervene. He cuts Mitsuba down and confronts Tsukasa (who says that they just met on the rooftop recently).
    • When Mitsuba disappears, Kou sees a version of their first meeting, though it may not be a memory since it differs from his previous recollection.
    • Kou keeps Mitsuba's damaged camera, and develops the photos he'd taken.
    • Tsukasa later builds a spirit body from low-grade spirits and adds the part of Mitsuba's soul, creating the version of Mitsuba that Nene encounters in the Mirror Hell (Chapter 34).
  • By the time Kou is looking through the photos in his room at night, he has a bandage on his forehead, presumably from his injury when Tsukasa slammed him into the floor.
    • Kou still has a bandage on his forehead and around his hands during the subsequent arcs, until after the Mirror Hell arc.
  • The fishes hold a funeral for the pufferfish at night.
  • Nene is playing her idol-raising game in her classroom when Natsuhiko arrives.

The Tea Party Arc (Chapters 21–22) []

  • This arc continues directly from the end of Chapter 20. Nene follows Natsuhiko away from her classroom, and is turned into a fish by Tsukasa. Nene wakes up at the tea party in the boundary. Sakura introduces herself as a third year from the high school division.
  • 30 minutes later: Nene is still having the tea party with Sakura. Tsukasa and Sakura leave, trapping Nene and Natsuhiko in the chairs. The room sinks, and they end up in a space with many doors. Hanako gives Nene instructions through a radio, from an old-fashioned crank telephone in the toilet. He sends one of the hakujoudai to search for Nene while she looks for a familiar door. Natsuhiko apparently dies after being dragged through one of the doors. Nene finds a classroom door from the old school building, and is transported to July 18, 1969 where she meets Amane. The hakujoudai then finds her and brings her back to the toilet in the present day.
    • Natsuhiko later refers to this place as the "space between boundaries" (境界の狭間) after he returns (Chapter 35).
    • Nene still has the rocket keychain Amane dropped after she returns to the future.

The Three Clock Keepers Arc (Chapters 23–27) []

  • Preceding events without known time:
    • Hanako meets the Clock Keepers for the first time (presumably before their recruitment of Akane), and they refuse to meet him afterwards or tell him the location of their boundary. Hanako and Akane hear about each other before their first meeting.
    • Teru tells Kou about Akane (who has apparently failed in his love confessions 3624 times) while eating at home with Tiara.
    • Nene's hamster, Black Canyon, has escaped at least once.
      • It is still listed to be 3 months old (same as Chapter 12). If this is accurate, it implies that less than a month has passed since the 4PM Bookstacks Arc.
    • Aoi has already found the arms in the gardening club photographs of Nene. Akane later says that Aoi seems to have been worried over something recently, so it may have been some time since her initial discovery.
      • Assuming that the arms only appeared after Mitsuba asked them to bring someone who is able to help him (Chapter 31), he may already have been in the Mirror Hell by this point.
  • The main events of this arc all occur within the same day, although they are undone when Kako turns back the school's time to that morning (before Mirai's escape).
    • Nene's classroom changed when they returned from the biology lab (it was normal until third period), while Yokoo and Satou were aged by the end of fourth period.
    • When Akane offers to freeze Kou's time, the time shown on his pocketwatch is just past 8 o'clock.
  • Akane uses his powers thrice: first in the hall to freeze the chandelier and Kou in the great hall, then to freeze Kou's lightning cage, and finally to freeze Kou when Kako turns back time.
  • Mirai is unable to turn Nene's time forward, meaning that Nene has less than a year of lifespan left.
  • After Kako turns back time, the original events are forgotten by everyone except the Supernaturals (apparently including Akane), Teru (presumably as a human with high spiritual power), Kou (whose time was stopped by Akane during the reversal), and Nene.
    • Nene is holding a biology book, suggesting that her conversation with Kou and Akane occurs before or after the biology lab she mentioned in the original timeline.
    • Teru drags Akane off to the Student Union room while Kou goes after him, leaving Nene alone. She decides to ask Hanako about No.1's yorishiro when she sees him after school.
    • Meanwhile, Hanako is on the old school building's rooftop.

Searching Arc (Chapters 28–29) []

  • According to Akane, the events of this chapter occur on the same day as Mirai's rampage.
  • Many characters appear in this arc, each taking different but related actions as listed below:
    • Akane has been bowing for about one hour ever since entering the Student Union room, possibly since Teru dragged him away in the previous arc.
    • Hanako goes to the science preparation room, followed by the practice garden, then returns to the school building and goes up to the new building's rooftop. Nene finds Hanako here and kisses him on the cheek. Hanako then leaves after Kou arrives.
    • During the lunch break, Kou and Teru (along with many others) gather insects. Kou arrives at the science preparation room (right after Hanako leaves) to give Tsuchigomori the insects. After Nene leaves, Tsuchigomori shows Kou Nene's future for today: Nene will kiss Hanako for the first time. Kou tries to prevent it, but is too late, since he arrives at the rooftop after Nene does.
      • A meeting schedule for June and July is visible in one frame.
    • Yako sees Hanako enter the science preparation room. She then goes to the toilet to complain to Nene about the new Misaki Stairs rumor. She follows Nene on her search until the practice garden.
    • Nene finds the love letter in her desk after returning from lunch break. After school, she looks for Hanako in the toilet, where she meets Yako. Nene goes to the science preparation room with Yako, where they meet Kou and Tsuchigomori. Nene and Yako then goes to the practice garden, where she meets Aoi (who is doing her gardening club activities) and the kodama (who has a new rumor). Alone, Nene goes to the Student Union room where she meets Akane and Teru. Finally, she goes to the rooftop where she finds Hanako, before Kou arrives..
      • Aoi asks to talk to Nene tomorrow or someday, and has told her about the spirit photography during a gardening club session by the start of Chapter 30.

Reach Out Your Hand (Chapter 30) []

  • Tsukasa is shown in a room with a mirror, possibly talking to Mitsuba.
  • The spirit arms have been appearing around Nene ever since she saw the photographs, though it's not specified how much time has passed. After she tells Hanako and Kou, the arms also appear in the toilet. They manage to make most of the arms disappear by paying attention to them, removing them from the photographs as well, but the last arm drags Nene in through the mirror. Nene lands in a boundary (also with a row of sinks and mirrors), and Mitsuba appears in the middle school uniform.
    • It's later shown that Mitsuba had been watching Nene, Hanako, and Kou from the mirror boundary (Chapter 34).

The Hell of Mirrors Arc (Chapter 31–35) []

  • The arc continues directly from the end of Chapter 30. Mitsuba appears to have been trapped in the Mirror Hell boundary for a while. The mirrors have been blank for him since he arrived, whether due to being a ghost or his lack of memories (although he seems to have some impression of the name Hanako). Tsukasa saves them from No.3's attack, before killing it and attempting to feed Mitsuba its heart. He puts Nene to sleep when she tries to stop him.
    • Mitsuba asked the hands to bring someone who can help him, though it's not specified when he did this.
    • Nene states that this is her fourth time in a boundary. Presumably, her previous experiences were the Misaki Stairs, the 4PM Bookstacks, and the Tea Party Arc.
  • At the same time, Hanako and Kou search for a way to cross to No.3's boundary. They ask for Tsuchigomori's help about 2 hours after Nene's disappearance, and reach the boundary with Yako's help via the Misaki Stairs. They arrive in the Mirror Hell boundary and find Nene asleep, while Mitsuba becomes the new No.3. After several confrontations, Mitsuba sends Nene, Hanako, and Kou back through the mirrors, and they land in the bathroom, all asleep.
    • Right after returning from the Mirror Hell, Kou tells Hanako and Nene about Mitsuba, saying that he'll do something about it (Chapter 36).
  • Meanwhile, Natsuhiko returns, having taken quite some time to get back since the Tea Party Arc. When he arrives in the broadcasting room, Tsukasa and Mitsuba (in their middle school uniform) are already there with Sakura.

Delivery (Chapter 36) []

  • Three days later: At the beginning of the chapter, Nene is in her home at night, and says that it has been three days since they were sent out of the Mirror Hell boundary.
  • Likely the next day: In the morning, Hanako appears in Nene's classroom during history class. He is still around during home economics in 3rd to 4th period, when Akane comes to talk to Nene. It seems to be later on the same day when the Mokke deliver the cupcakes Nene made and the summer festival poster.
    • Although no dates are specified, summer festivals are most often held in July or August, and this festival may be during Tanabata, since Tanabata tanzaku or wish-writing is listed as an activity.
    • The poster states that this is the 57th festival. Since summer festivals are held annually, and assuming it is mid/late-2010s in canon time, this suggests that the festival first started in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

The Summer Light Arc (Chapter 37–38) []

  • July 7 (Tanabata): Yako, Hanako, Nene, and Kou gather at the Misaki Stairs at night to go to the Star Festival at the boundary. Towards the end of festival, Nene is seemingly transported to the 1964 Star Festival after being knocked down by the bull procession. The fireworks have ended by the time she wakes up.
    • Nene refers to 1964 as being more than 50 years ago, implying that the current year is 2015 or later.
    • It's unclear whether Nene actually travelled to 1964, since Yako says that Nene has been unconscious since being knocked down, and Nene also wonders if it was a dream.

Mokke of the Dead (Chapter 39) []

  • Several days earlier: Tiara finds the infected wild Mokke and asks Teru to cleanse it.
  • At night: Teru tries to purify the Mokke in school before bringing it home, but it escapes.
  • Likely the next day: Hanako and the other Mokke are infected by the time Nene arrives after school. The incident is resolved by that night. Teru (carrying the purified Mokke) and Kou walk home together.
    • The events of Chapter 13 from the Spin-off follow directly afterwards, on the same night.

Melancholy of the New Number Three (Chapter 40)[]

  • The next day: Kou tests the recovered Yokoo and Satou by checking if they still want to eat sweets. He wonders how Mitsuba is doing.
  • Meanwhile, Mitsuba says that he has only met Tsukasa and the rest for a short time. After running away from the broadcasting room, Mitsuba encounters various other Supernaturals and Teru, before being rescued by Natsuhiko. It's revealed that Sakura and the others have organized a welcome party for Mitsuba, while Tsukasa has brought No.4 for him.
    • Prior to this, Tsukasa comes to find Shijima in the art room, and asks her to make a painting. Shijima draws a clone of herself and tells Tsukasa to talk to the clone instead (presumably the version of Shijima that is at Mitsuba's welcome party). It is not explicitly stated when this occurs, but it must be after the Mirror Hell Arc, as Shijima has heard about what happened to No.3 by this point (Chapter 54).

Picture Perfect Arc (Chapter 41–58)[]

Within the painting world[]

As most of this arc takes place in a false world within one of Shijima's paintings, there are major differences from the main timeline.

  • Amane and Tsukasa are alive, and in the same year as Nene. Amane sits behind Nene in class, while Tsukasa is in the next-door class.
    • Amane addresses Nene as "Yashiro-san", rather than just "Yashiro" as Hanako does.
  • Mitsuba is also alive, and in Kou's class. According to Yokoo and Satou, they have been friends with Mitsuba since first year, though he was in a different class during their second year.
    • The accident in the winter (that would've killed Mitsuba) seems to not have occurred.
  • Nene does not have the mermaid's curse.
  • The rumor of No.4, "Shijima-san of the Art Room", is known within the world, though it's not stated if the rumors of the rest of the Seven Mysteries are known as well. Similarly, it is not stated whether Akane is one of the Clock Keepers in this world, though he still wears glasses (which may just be normal glasses).
  • In addition, the Mokke are kept as pets, Teru is not an exorcist, Yako and Misaki are both alive and married, and Tsuchigomori is presumably a regular person (Volume 9 extra).
  • The atelier tower (Shijima's museum) is in Kamome Academy. According to the others, it has been there since they started school, and is always under construction, though it seems that it will be finished soon.

Although the world seems to have begun only on this day, past events are referred to within its chronology, such as Akane bringing Amane a book he previously said he wanted to read, or Nene and the rest having volunteered for the pool cleaning previously.

The main events of the arc appear to all occur within one day during summer, although Shijima also appears to control the passage of time within the false world as well.

  • In the morning, Nene is almost late to class, and sees Amane (who already has the pair of movie tickets at this point). They have literature class, and later PE in fourth period. During lunch break, Amane asks Nene out to watch a movie together on Sunday.
    • During literature class, Amane is shown reading aloud from the short story Takasebune, which was published in January 1916.
    • One of the scenes shown later (when Nene destroys Shijima's yorishiro) depicts Amane, Nene, and Aoi having lunch together, which presumably occurred on this day.
  • The same morning, Kou comes to school earlier than usual to do his class duties, but Mitsuba is already there. Yokoo and Satou then arrive. They have math in first period, and later chemistry lab, where Mitsuba is injured in a minor explosion. Kou treats his cut and brings him to the infirmary.
  • After school, Nene and Kou meet during the pool cleaning, and see Shijima drawing in the garden. Aoi and Akane fall apart when Shijima cuts up their paintings, but the others say that they'll be back to normal in 20 to 30 minutes. Mitsuba accidentally lets slip that this is a fake world. Nene and Kou chase and finally corner Mitsuba, who tells them to go to the tower.
  • In the tower, Nene and Kou meet Shijima, while Natsuhiko and Sakura watch. Meanwhile, Akane and Aoi are back to normal, and make cookies with Mitsuba, Yokoo, and Satou.
    • It is later revealed that this Shijima is actually also one of the clones, as the real Shijima has been drawing in the real world all along.
  • By the time Nene and Kou leave the tower, it is night-time, and the students are gathering on the rooftop to watch the Perseids meteor shower. Kou runs after Mitsuba, leaving Nene with Amane. They then meet Tsukasa. Nene returns to the classroom to change, and the three go up to the rooftop together.
  • Nene finds Amane alone atop the rooftop stair access, and asks him to run to the real world with her as the meteor shower starts. Attempting to find the edge of the world, they leave the school on Amane's bicycle, but Nene sees Shijima everywhere. They end up at a playground. The floating brush appears, but Amane breaks it apart before it can tell Nene about the door. Amane then renders Nene unconscious and carries her back to school. However, Nene wakes up along the way, and hears the subsequent conversation.
  • Meanwhile, Mitsuba and Kou are inside the school building when the meteor shower begins (which will last for 1–2 hours, according to Mitsuba). Mitsuba uses his powers as No.3, and their confrontation ends with them both falling to the bushes below. Mitsuba hides as Amane arrives with Nene on his back, but accidentally gives himself away, causing Amane to reveal himself to be Hanako. Hanako leaves with Nene, despite Mitsuba's attempt to stop him.
  • Hanako locks Nene in a cell within Shijima's tower and leaves. While he talks to Shijima outside, Nene finds art tools in the cell, including the palette knife which she uses to threaten Shijima afterwards to no avail. However, during their conversation, Shijima wishes to meet Mei again, causing Tsukasa to appear in his form as a supernatural. In order to fulfil Shijima's wish, Tsukasa sends Shijima and Nene into Mei's dream, set in a hospital.
  • Meanwhile, Kou and Mitsuba encounter the brush, and it leads them to Nene. They tie Shijima up once she returns, and Mitsuba wakes Nene up. Shijima says that they need to prioritize leaving the world before it completes. After the brush reveals the existence of a door, Shijima leads them up the tower, and reveals that the exit is the moon.
    • Nene apparently makes a plan at this time, and Shijima removes the seal on Kou's spirit staff.
    • The meteor shower still appears to be ongoing, suggesting that less than 2 hours have passed in the Esoragoto world.
  • Hanako is at the top of the tower. Nene executes her plan: Kou fights Hanako with Shijima's assistance while Nene and Mitsuba sneak away to figure out a way to the moon. Nene asks the brush for a pumpkin carriage, but ends up with a flying bicycle. Meanwhile, Kou is exhausted from fighting, and Hanako notes that the world is about to complete, but Mitsuba then tosses the three of them into the rear car. However, Hanako disconnects the bicycle before they can reach the moon, causing him and Nene to fall onto a cloud. Hanako finally reveals that his wish is for Nene to keep on living.
  • Nene, Shijima, Kou, and Mitsuba are returned to the real world with Hanako's assistance. The others are later returned when Nene destroys Shijima's yorishiro.

Return to the real world[]

  • Nene finds herself in the art room boundary, and finally meets the real Shijima. Mitsuba and Kou are shown to have landed in the entranceway.
  • After Nene destroys Shijima's yorishiro, everything goes back to normal from the morning. Shijima is looking at Mei's painting in the art room when Tsukasa finds her. Nene and Kou meet each other in front of the toilet before seeing Hanako, and Nene tells them that she has something to discuss.
    • Nene is shown having literature class just as they did in the false world, suggesting that it may (chronologically) be a repeat of the same day.
    • The Shijima present during Hanako's trial in the study camp arc states that she is only a drawing, implying that she may not be the "real" Shijima we see here.

Final Exams (Chapter 59)[]

  • This chapter continues directly from the end of Chapter 58.
  • Nene's exam timetable indicates that they are currently in the first academic term. She also mentions that an unexpectedly long time passed while they were in the painting world, suggesting that the time there was slower than in the real world.
  • Seven days to the exams: Teru issues a bet to Akane based on their exam scores.
  • Six days to the exams: Akane revises madly, and declines Aoi's invitation to take a walk to the practice garden.
  • Five days to the exams: Nene cleans Black Canyon's cage at night.
  • Four days to the exams: At the Minamoto home, Kou does practice questions for Teru to review.
  • Three days to the exams: Hanako bugs Tsuchigomori to reveal Nene's exam questions.
  • Two days to the exams: Satou arrives at school with a large bag of stress-baked cookies
  • One day to the exams: Aoi sees Akane revising late at night from her balcony.
  • Day of exams: Nene's class is shown taking the exams.
  • After the results are released, Teru wins their bet and asks Akane to help Kou when he asks for it. He then runs into Aoi at the top student board.

Study Camp/Sacrifice of the Grim Reaper Arc (Chapters 60–70)[]

  • After the final exams and results release, Nene celebrates the start of summer vacation. Aoi corrects her that the study camp begins the day after tomorrow, where the high school first years will gather in the evening and stay in the school overnight. Kou will also be attending as part of the organising committee.
  • Two days later: The study camp begins.
    • In the evening, while preparing dinner with the others in the practice garden, Nene considers talking to Akane about her lifespan but decides to do it later. She first hears the flute music here.
    • At night, they learn bamboo weaving, which is done at night in every year's study camp. Satou and Yokoo are there to observe. One of the instructors tells them about how the old "tsukimachi" tradition of staying up and weaving through the night, which Aoi says is the basis for Kamome's study camp.
      • Aoi says that she heard about the tradition from her grandfather.
    • Nene runs out of the room midway through Aoi's telling of the shinigami rumour, and runs into Akane in a hallway of the old building. She hears the flute music again. Akane hands her his glasses to keep and takes down a supernatural, but they are then caught by No.6. Aoi comes looking for Nene because she was late to return. No.6 appears to be able to detect her approach, seeming to recognise her, and kidnaps her.
      • Teru later finds Akane's glasses here, implying that Nene dropped them at some point (though it's not shown happening).
      • When Akane freezes time, the time shown on his pocketwatch is just past 6:30. However, it's later shown as just before 7:30 after time unfreezes.
      • Aoi is able to see Akane in his clock keeper form at this point, and also No.6 based on her words later.
    • The school mysteries (excluding No.6) put Hanako on trial for his actions.
      • The clock behind Kako shows 6:45, suggesting that this occurred around the same time as their encounter with No.6.
      • Kako states that Urabon (aka Obon) is coming up soon. Tsuchigomori explains that this refers to the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, corresponding to around August or September.
    • Aoi wakes up in No.6's boundary, still in her clothes from the study camp.
    • While Nene and Akane are arguing, they see a ghost that seems to be Sumire, and follow her to an elevator.
      • The elevator moves down, at one point almost letting in some kind of supernatural with a clown like appearance that also appeared in chapter 22.
    • Hanako calls the elevator phone and attempts to give advice to Akane and Nene but cannot help direct the elevator unless he's there, but he offers for Akane to summon him there by wishing for Hanako. Akane uses Nene as a hostage to make Hanako appear.
    • Hanako guides them to No.6's boundary, which is the closest to the far shore according to Hanako.
    • Meanwhile No.6 talks to small supernaturals about his plan to shut off boundaries from those in the living world, Aoi comes into the room wearing traditional Japanese clothing that is mainly purple and red, with red flowers in her hair, it's revealed that Aoi is being used as a sacrafice to perform the seperation of the living and dead worlds.
      • Aoi sets No.6's plannig wall on fire to get his attention.
    • No.6 and Aoi are told of Hanako, Akane and Nene's arrival in the boundary and Aoi offers to go meet them.
    • Aoi sneaks up on the trio, causing the lantern Nene was carrying to glow. She claims that she 'ran away' from No.6 when she saw them. Hanako is obviously doubtful of Aoi's story but she changes the subject by asking him if he's 'Nene-chan's crush'.
      • Aoi tells the group that she knows where the exit is and offers to take them, leading them to a room with what looks like a portal in the middle. Hanako, Nene and Akane stand on it, it shatters, dropping Hanako and Nene into the boundary's 'garbage shoot', Akane sensed something was off with Aoi and he was able to jump away in time.
    • Aoi starts to reveal her true personality that she had been hiding her entire life, that she wishes to 'be sent far away, across the border, all the way to the far shore!', she also starts to say that by leaving she had thrown away everything that she hates, saying that's why Akane needs to go.
      • Aoi summons a giant centipede looking creature that she rides, commanding it to attack Akane, Akane has to dodge her attacks. He tackles Aoi off of the bug, pinning her to the ground, telling her that he loves her and he can't allow her 'wish' to come true.
      • In response she kisses him, telling him that 'after this he shouldn't love her anymore', the bug then stabs him through the torso, causing him to cough up blood.
      • Akane hugs Aoi while dragging her toward the garbage shoot, pulling them down together.
    • Nene and Hanako are dropped into Sumire's time prison, where they're captured and kept as Sumire's 'pets'.
      • Nene discovers that Sumire has a yorishiro seal on her neck, figuring out that Sumire is No.6's yorishiro. Sumire asks her to keep it a secret from Hanako as it's her wedding day tomorow. Sumire gives Nene a bracelt that has what looks like bells attached.
      • Nene is woken in the morning by the villiage people who believe that Nene is Sumire, dressing her up for the wedding and carry her out.
      • She tries to run but is carried back and given an 'elixir that should make her fear of death no more,' she becomes complient and walks with them to the ceremony. As she walks she's being shown memories of Sumire's life.
      • As she is about to step off her bracelet crackles, breaking her out of the trance. She again tries to run but the villiagers take her back and have decided to throw her off.
      • Nene yells for Hanako and he quickly appears, cancelling the wedding.
      • The scene starts to disolve into a black liquid, dropping Hanako and Nene from the ledge, Hanako holds on to the ledge and Nene. Sumire decides to 'end this now' and sacrafices herself.
      • Time is then turned back to the start, where they were first found by Sumire, they plan to go find No.6 with Sumire, Hanako summons the elevator back.
    • While this happens, Akane is carrying Aoi as they try to find a way out, Akane soon colapses as he's weak from his injury. They decide to rest for a bit while Aoi bandages Akane's injury.
      • Akane is overjoyed by Aoi's help and again asks her to marry him, she agrees this time but says that he would just end up disappointed.
      • Aoi starts asking what Akane actually likes about her and confronts him for lying to her about his part in the clock keepers.
      • Aoi tries to leave but Akane stops her and tells her that he's 'actually hated her the entire time', telling her that he's know her better than she thought.
      • He switches up after Aoi starts crying saying that he loves her and always will
      • Teru walks in on them, causing them to split apart.
    • Teru tells them how close they are to the far shore and how the living shouldn't be able to reach it, Also telling Akane to stay as clock keeper as he wouldn't normally be able to bear his injury and immediately die. He also explains more about the land on which the school was built and the role of the 7 wonders.
      • Teru brings the group to a tunnel, explaining that its the pathway back to the living world and that they must not look back or they'll never be able to go back.
      • Aoi starts to apologise as they walk, they then start to talk about what they like and what they want to do when they get back, when Aoi asks what Akane likes he responds with, 'I like you Ao-chan', this visabley upsets her but she says nothing.
    • While this happens, at the school the summer camp is still happening, Kou, Satou and Yokoo make food while Kou stresses over what his priority should be, Nene's lifespan or Mitsuba's promise.
      • Yokoo and Satou tell Kou to go get the group juice as he seems unwell. He runs into Mitsuba in the bathrooms, they walk together while Mitsuba trys to get Kou to tell him what he's worried about.
      • Kou hears a strange noise and runs to investigate, they discover Natsuhiko being eaten by a supernatural and save him.
      • Kou is at first untrustworthy of him and almost leaves until Natsuhiko brings up Nene's lifespan. They decide on a plan to catch No.6 as they want to take him down.
      • Mitsuba is first to fall asleep and Natsuhiko tells Kou about his 'acts of heroism' to make Kou like him, which works. Natsuhiko tells him what No.6 does.
  • Teru and Akane make it back to the living world, Akane turns to realise that Aoi didn't make it with them.

The Severance (Chapter 71)[]

  • Teru explains that Aoi is no longer among the living. Upset, Akane punches Teru and in panic tries to go back to get Aoi but he collapses from his injuries.
    • He tries to get back up to get her but Teru stops him.
    • A supernatural creature tries to attack them, Teru prepared to exorcise it but it shatters into little triangles.
    • Teru realises what must be happening and takes Akane to go find the Clock Keepers.
  • Hanako sits on a windowsill at the school, counting 5 supernaturals as they too shattered into triangles.
  • Nene finds him and the school bell rings, (it is midnight as Nene exclaims that the bell shouldn't be ringing at midnight)
  • Hanako gets down from the windowsill, also shattering into triangles but slower than the other supernaturals.
    • He explains that as a girl (Aoi) had been sacraficed the human and supernatural worlds will be seperated.
    • Hanako tries to erase Nene's memories of him and the other supernaturals but the bracelet Sumire gave her crackles again, pushing Hanako away.
    • Nene demands that Hanako tell her what happened, he tells her that he fufilled her wish to live longer in the real world by Aoi dying in her place, giving Nene the rest of her life span.
    • Nene panics and tries to hit Hanako but stops, crying and begging him not to go.
    • He shatters completely into triangles and Nene falls to the ground.

Day Off (Chapter 72)[]

  • Nene tries to summon Hanako at the bathrooms, he doesn't show.
  • Summer vacation begins.
  • Teru goes to Akane's house, likely ordering him to go out with him, he then goes to Nene's house, inviting her out on a 'date'.
    • They go to an arcade, Teru showing excitement as he'd never been able to go before due to his job as an exorcist.
    • They then go to 'Kareoke Mansion', while Teru leaves to wash his hands, Nene and Akane agree to work together to set things back to how they were.
    • They also go to ping pong, billiards, bowling, trampolining and roller skating.
    • Teru decides that they'll go back to his house,

Red House Arc (Chapters 73-82)[]

  • The group heads back to the Minamoto household where Kou is cooking dinner.
  • After they eat Teru explains that the severance occured as the 7 proper paths between the near and far shores in the school that the wonders controlled were blocked off, forcing all the supernaturals back to the far shore.
    • They plan to get to the far shore through a path outside of the school.
    • Kou tells Nene that Natsuhiko had told him how a person can become a supernatural.
  • The next day: Kou and Nene have the job of finding out how to use No.3's boundary or to see if it's still accessible.
    • They run into Mitsuba's mum while looking for his grave and she takes them back to her house.
    • She shows them photos that he had taken while he was alive, a photo of 'the red house' standing out, they contact Teru who informs them of the curse attached to the house, that if you enter, you'll die.
    • They stumble upon the house and decide to not go in, until they hear a child's voice from inside and decide to quickly go in to rescue them.
    • While looking the house looks really creepy and they continuously see things scary.
    • They find a child that resembles Tsukasa more than Hanako behind the door who asks to play with them.
    • Nene believes that the kid is 'Hanako-kun's descendant' while Kou believes he's Tsukasa.
  • Nene tries to take him outside because the house is too dangerous but Kou realizes something is off and tries to stop her but she gets swept off somewhere, leaving Kou and the kid.
  • Kou wakes up an unknown amount of time later on an old couch holding a torn up bear. He grabs the kid, asking if he's Hanako's younger brother.
  • Kou walks through the house, trying to find Nene, the house is full of unusual things, like clocks on the roof.
  • They enter a room takeout on the table, Kou refuses to eat so the kid asks what he wants he says he wants a weapon to save Nene, which shows up in front of them.
    • He plans to ignore everything that shows up as a wish, Mitsuba shows up as the next 'wish'; Kou doesn't fall for it and tries to ignore him, but the fake Mitsuba tries to get him to die to join him as a supernatural.
    • He then runs into Yokoo, Satou, Teru and Mitsuba before he died.
    • He continues to run, breaking down, he crouches in the corner of a new room. His mum was the next to show up, cooking something. They eat, we learn that Kou's mother died when he was 9 after the birth of his little sister. The child says that Kou can decide if he wants Nene to not be able to exit this house allowing his mom to be brought back to life. Kou denies, points at the kid, and asks him what his wish is, revealing the child to be Yugi Tsukasa.

Flashback

  • Little Tsukasa is picking flowers, stating that they are Amane's favorite, and goes to his brother's room. He overhears a conversation with a doctor that is examining his brother, who tells his mother that Amane needs to rest, avoid exercise, and not play with his younger brother. The doctor says that even still, he isn't sure if Amane will hold out until next month, which makes young Tsukasa sad.
    • We see that on November 25, 1959, Tsukasa and Amane have a photograph taken of them. As it's their birthday, they are given teddy bears as gifts and treated to a birthday feast.
    • The twin have fun, and the mother is relieved that Amane is feeling better. She's happy to do what he was not allowed to do (playing in the garden, going to the pool and in adventures) he want to go at the space too.
    • Tsukasa ends up jumping into his brother's arms causing them both to fall. He ask at his brother if he love him and he said "of course"
    • As the twins go to bed a terrifying voice appears in a room calling Tsukasa, he come to the room we see a huge hole, Tsukasa walks in there while he hears his brother calling him and Tsukasa said bye and disappears, as his brother walks in and sees him no more and search.
  • Kou doesn't fully comprehend all of what he's heard so Tsukasa tells him that he can't leave this house due to his wish.
  • Teru and Akane arrive at a shrine and are greeted by a man who calls Teru "Teru-sama". Teru explains the man is the head priest, Nagisa Kunishige and how exorcists and shrines have worked together for a long time, comparing shrines to brokers and pains in the neck who alway nag at a distance. Nagisa gets angry explaining he accomodates exorcists so that they can make a living and proposes to cut off their relationship. Teru knows that they would both lose their jobs and soon the town would be flooded with supernaturals, jokingly saying if tehy should be flashy about it. Kunishige stops the bickering and asks why they are here until he is interrupted by a telephone. Akane goes to answer it, noticing Kou is calling and answers it, but a mysterious voice asks Akane what his wish is. Teru hangs up the call when Kunishige asks Akane if he is cursed for getting a call from "that kid". Teru asks if Kunishige knows something about the phone call and Kunishige starts a story about something that happened to him when he was working as a junior priest many decades ago.

Flashback

  • A woman enters a shrine with her child, explaining the child vanished on his birthday and suddenly reappeared 6 months later. She was initially overjoyed but soon realized that the kid wasn't her child, claiming to be replaced with something else on the inside. All the priests said there was nothing wrong with him making it seem the woman was crazy. Kunishige goes to check on the child, who was drawing something until he points at Kunishige stating his wish would come true and the next day, the head priest died. The head priest was the kind of man who would insult Kunishige's origin, dip into the shrine's funds and everyone wanted him to disappear so even though the death was accidental, Kunishige was still scared of the event. Years later, the child's entire family dies in a family suicide and everyone else who stepped foot in the house dies as well until the Minamoto family intervened.
  • Kunishige reprimands Teru for messing with the house and shouldn't be carelessly approached which is what Teru's grandmother decided. Teru explains Kou went out investigating nearby and ended up going inside. Kunishige gets restless as not a single death has happened in that house in years and Teru apologizes, but Kunishige won't take it and leaves the room to talk to Teru's father so that he can get reprimanded. Akane notices the room gets locked but Teru slumps on the floor, getting tired of all the events that have happened. Teru explains the reason they came there was because the Misaki Shrine merged with the Nagisa shrine and even Kunishige is descended from Misaki. Since No 2 controls space, Teru thought there might be some items from the Misaki shrine that could help with their endeavor and decided to ask Kunishige for help but ended up failing, stating nowadays nothing goes right for him. Even though he sacrificed his youth to protect his family, he got shocked wheen Kou asked what would happen if he turned into a supernatural and starts complaining about his life. Akane teases Teru for acting undecent, unlike his perfect self but Teru teases him back saying he saw Akane acting indecent toward Aoi, proving Akane's suspicions for Teru interrupting him on purpose. Teru knows everyone has their own wishes and his wish is for Aoi to come back, making Akane question if Teru has feelings for Aoi. Teru explains he has a dream and Aoi is necessary for it to happen but Akane doesn't care, threatening to rescue Aoi by himself and tell her how useless Teru was to help. Teru jumps up to action, breaking down the door, giving up on persuading Kunishige, and steals a family heirloom, a small box.
  • Teru and Akane walk back home when Akane starts to get worried about Kou but Teru doesn't get worried as he's his little brother. Teru says that Nene will be alright too if she's with Kou but Akane doesn't believe him.
  • Nene tries to get out of the weird place by climbing but fails, noticing the floor is flooded with water and is inside a cave-like place. She looks for another exit where she meets a girl and asks if she's okay, but notices the girl's face is distorted and tries to run away but gets captured by more girls who look very similar. She is saved by a man who calms the girls down until they turn into water and the man asks who she is. Nene explains her situation and asks if the man brought her there but he denies it, saying whoever brought her there should be a god. He explains to her that the people there were kannagi offered to God in exchange for a wish, including himself.

Flashback

  • He explains in his village there was a custom to dropping a sacrifice down a pit to exorcise supernaturals and your wish would be fulfilled. He didn't like the custom or the increasing number of statues and because he is a man he couldn't be chosen as a sacrifice. He wanted to explore outside the village and was recognized as an apprentice pharmacist, being able to leave the village as a peddler until one day a group of villagers came to him and chose him as a sacrifice. Originally a girl was sacrificed but they sacrificed too many and there were no more girls left and because he was the youngest child, still wasn't married, and was descended from the family that offered sacrifices, sacrificed him instead. He sunk and drifted until he arrived at the cave where there were more people he could communicate with but eventually they all turned to husks and stay there.
  • Nene makes the connection that all the girls in the cave were kannagi and asks if another girl came in before her, imitating Aoi, but he says he hasn't seen anyone like that except for a a boy named Tsukasa. Nene imitates Tsukasa instead but the man says Tsukasa looked like a small boy and Nene realizes the boy in the house was Tsukasa. She realizes that if Tsukasa was able to go back to the house, she could escape as well and asks the man how the child escaped. The man didn't see the boy escape and apologizes but Nene keeps insisting until he relents.
  • He asks what she will do once she escapes and Nene says she'll meet up with Kou again, ask Tsukasa who he is, go into a boundary to look for Aoi and Hanako, then slap Hanako and he notices how busy she will be. She says she had different plans for summer like the school sleepover, set fireworks at night, go to the beach with Aoi and work on club activities and berates Hanako for the trouble he's caused. She confesses she likes being called Yashiro by Hanako and its been so long since he called her that, which the man takes as her having a crush on Hanako, which she denies. She asks him if he wants to join her and he replies he wants to see the sky as he wanted to see unknown skies from known lands when he was younger but its impossible now for people like him. They finally arrive at the place and notices how small it is.
  • Kou doesn't understand what Tsukasa is saying, wondering who did it and why until they hear a noise that comes from the pipes. Suddenly Nene pops out of the pipe as a fish.
  • Nene explains what happened to her, telling the man how she would be able to escape by turning into a fish. Nene asks if there is any way to repay him as she wants to thank him and the man asked her to stay because if he stays too long souls end up being corrupted and the sacrificed kannagis exist just to curse the living. A dark substance starts snaking up his arm while he explains he doesn't want to disappear alone until he passes it off as a joke because her scared face was enough repayment. She asks what his name is and he answers Katakuri.
  • After her explanation and Kou's own story, Nene questions if the child is really Tsukasa, which he answers yes. Tsukasa said he is 4 years old and she asks why he stayed in this place. Kou answers that Tsukasa sacrificed himself for the price for his wish, prompting Nene asking Tsukasa why he is here so Tsukasa asks if she likes him or Amane. She answered she likes Amane and Tsukasa says he'll tell her about Amane while showing them Amane's room. He takes a ball out of a box of toys, explaining that was the first wish he got granted.

Flashback

  • Tsukasa captures a lizard but loses Amane's ball under the house. He imagines his brother scolding him for losing the ball. The lizard comes out of his basket as Tsukasa calls for the ball to come. The ball bounces bask towards him and he finds that the lizard has disappeared. He jumps into his brother's arms and tells him that there's something under their house that granted his wish and Amane wonder if it was a God. Tsukasa wants to test it, asking Amane what he wants and Amane wants a new book. They are called for dinner where Tsukasa asks for seconds, going back to the place and offering it rice balls. As he intruduces himself and asking for a wish for his brother, ne notices it doesn't like rice balls and offers a frog instead and getting the book he wished for. When he finally leaves saying "Yay thank you" the creepy voice imitates him. When he said "You can talk?" the creepy voice imitates him again, repeating the question. As Amane coughs, Tsukasa shows him the book and Amane wonders if Tsukasa went to the bookstore with their dad. Tsukasa asks him if he's happy and if he gonna to read it but Amane refuses and tells him that since Tsukasa isn't good at reading, he'll read it to him another time as Tsukasa asks if Amane wants anything, to tell him.
  • Little by little Tsukasa makes lots of wishes until their mother tells her that her brother is not well and that he can't go play with him. When he asks her how long, she replies that when Amane gets better. Tsukasa wakes up his brother and offers him to go see the thing under their house. Amane shoves him violently telling him he can't as he coughs and tells him that Tsukasa is lucky to still have energy, that he is fine even though he runs a lot and goes where he wants. Amane ends up crying about being sick of being in that state. He also says that if he was healthy he wouldn't need anyone. Tsukasa licks the tears away telling him not to cry and that he will make his wish come true.
  • Nene and Kou are shocked as Kou asks him if in exchange for curing his brother's illness he came in the Red House and Tsukasa responds positively. Tsukasa tells the worried Nene that Amane is better and can run, stay late at night, go outside in the sun, have less trouble with colds and grow-up but Nene knows Hanako is dead so he can't grow up. Tsukasa is all excited thinking that his brother told him that when he grows up he will take a rocket and bring a star. Tsukasa can't wait and that his parents and even Amane will be happy. Kou asks him what will he do since Hanako is better and he must disappear in exchange so what's the point but Tsukasa says Amane hates him so it's okay. Kou tells him that it's not okay and if someone from a family disappears there's no way it's okay. His brother suffers becuase of his desperation and dies before he grow up. Nene tries to stop him but Kou says Yugi Amane died at 13 years old after killing his little brother.
  • Tsukasa is shocked by the news while Nene tells him that Kou shouldn't have told him but Kou says that's why they'll make sure it doesn't happen. Nene asks him what does he mean by that and the Tsukasa they know seems to be the same age as Hanako even though the little one says he's been there for a long time. Kou ends up saying that it's weird and what is the little brother that Hanako killed and Nene wonders if the Tsukasa spirit is a fake. Kou thinks the same thing and that Hanako killed him precisely because he is not his brother. Kou offers to send Tsukasa back to his family so Hanako doesn't have to kill him as Nene thinks that Hanako will be able to exist without having killed someone as it will change the future. Nene doesn't understand what the house is as it is different different from the one they entered. Kou therefore concludes that it is like a boundary but isn't one since the era and the space are mixed but decide to ask his brother after escaping.
  • Kou tells Tsukasa to leave home with them to continue living with her brother while Tsukasa says Amane is happy without his brother. Kou asks him if he said it to his face and that it's not because they are twins that he knows everything about his brother and that he may have said it in anger during an argument and that if they are together everything will be fine. Tsukasa concludes that he doesn't know anything about his brother and that maybe he will go home as he is starting to miss Amane.
  • The Red House start to attack them with collapsing walls. Nene and Tsukasa exit the room as Kou tries to hold the walls back so that they can escape before he jumps out of the room too, until a violent attack of the house makes them run away. They look for the exit and Tsukasa asks Kou if he's going to die to which Kou replies that Tsukasa has to think about what he wants to do with his brother. Tsukasa want to go to the Tanbata festival with Amane as Nene thinks Tsukasa must've felt lonely. They come to a dead end in a library where Nene saves Kou and Tsukasa from a collapsing shelf. Nene's leg is crushed and the ceiling starts to collapse as well, which Kou holds back until Tsukasa starts a fire which puts the room back to normal.
  • Kou and Nene thank him by hugging him and find the exit. Tsukasa said he will write a letter for Kou and Nene because he is glad they came to see him. They go out but they realize that Tsukasa hasn't followed them and see the house is collapsing by the flames.
  • They call him as Tsukasa says bye at them, as he already knew how go to home but he didn't because he thought he shouldn't. A black hole appears in his chest asking him if he will return. Tsukasa answers yes and decides to stop holding back, going together since Kou spoke about Amane. He repeats twice stronger and stronger that Amane is going to die at 13 after killing him while almost dancing in the fire. Even after having his wish come true, Amane will make a disaster out of it, calling him a weirdo. Tsukasa wants to know his brother a little more and wonders how he will kill him and ends up disappearing in the flames, unable to wait.

Pizza Party (chapter 83)[]

  • While looking for Tsukasa, Kou and Nene see a well. Nene wants to enter but Kou holds her back and he ends up carrying her due to his injured leg back to the Minamoto house. Teru tells them that if it was Tsukasa when he was 4 years old, the one who died more than 50 years ago, they couldn't have done anything but that their adventure in it has paid off and that there is a way to enter a boundary. He also says that Nene meeting the sacrificed kannagi is strange is it isn't geographically possible, wondering if the house is connected to the other side.
  • Teru has destroyed the kitchen so Akane goes to call to order and Tiara appears asking him to order pizza. Nene finds her too cute and she introduces herself after Teru asks her. They eat pizza with salami and pizza with shrimp. Nene is determined to save Aoi and to slap Hanako while Kou is determined to protect Nene as well as to look for Mitsuba while Tiara is determined not to go. Teru tells everyone to meet up at the Red House at 10 am. Nene seeing the time ends up calling her mother and when she comes back she overhears a conversation where Teru talks about Hanako, destroying the yorishiros of the seven mysteries and harming a living being and Teru can't allow him to do as he pleases. Akane says he wants to save Aoi and kill No. 7 so Teru asks Akane and Kou to follow Nene.

Far Shore Bound Arc (chapter 84-97)[]

  • The nest day: They end up going to the Red House at 10am and discover with horror that Teru has used the hand of a supernatural that was inside the box he stole from the shrine to be able to erase their existence from the world of the living by cutting it and placing it in the pizza. As Akane runs to tackle Teru, Teru throws Akane in the well and takes Kou and Nene inside to go there to the supernatural world.
  • Aoi notices holes in the sky of the boundary and how everyone is running away from them. She is pushed aside by a supernatural and falls down, slowly disintergrating, thinking if she will disappear that way. Aoi was nearly erased from existence but saved by Hanako after he calls out to her and explains the holes she sees in the sky are a result of the severance as the boundaries are trying to destroy themselves. He tells her to stop sitting next to a hole that she bearly notices destroy a supernatural and tells her she should escape in a train before getting swallowed up. She asks where the train is going and he tells her to the far shore but if she wants stay there and be destroyed he won't stop her. She hurries to the train and saves a Mokke along the way and delivers it to its friends. Hanako calls out to Aoi to sit with him and explains to her its a one way trip to the far shore where she will end up dying. He asks her about her life and she ends up talking about her love life; how she had a childhood friend move next door when she was three and not liking him. She hates people who are naturally liked by others because she isn't like that. Akane always ended up with the biggest burden and even when he complained he never stopped doing it so she ended up hating and loving that part of Akane. She asks Hanako what he likes about Nene, knowing she's not wrong, and he responds everything making her laugh. She says her and Hanako are alike because they can't say they like those they love and how they want to go back but can't. Suddenly the train stops and we see that it is Nene and Kou who are causing it and Akane and Teru are on the roof ready to save Aoi.
  • Teru and Akane end up entering the train and are attacked by the supernatural beings, but they fight back while looking for Aoi. Akane starts to get hurt from his previous wound so Teru offers Akane to sit out so he can rescue Aoi but Akane doesn't want to let Teru have Aoi. Aoi awaits the return of Hanako who is looking for who stopped the train and almost gets eaten by a supernatural because she has the blood of kannagi after she bumps into them. Teru and Akane run into Hanako who tells them Aoi has been eaten by supernaturals because of her kannagi soul. Akane gets angry but Teru calms him down as she is still alive because his amulet is ringing. Hanako prepares for a fight while Teru lets Akane run away to look for Aoi but Hanako tries to stop him. Teru stops Hanako and destroys the train car to properly fight each other.
  • Akane saves Aoi by stopping time and keeps her in his arms while Teru busts Hanako's face and tells Hanako he is being selfish in sacrificing Aoi's life to save Nene. Teru tells Hanako that he knows that Hanako thinks to burden himself with the dirty work, sacrificing Aoi to save the one he loves, which is foolish. Hanako says there was no other way to expand Nene's lifespan, so Teru explains to him that even if Nene did survive, he will kill Yashiro, as Yashiro could take the brunt of Hanako's actions, opening Hanako's eyes to what he has done. As Teru is about to exorcise Hanako, Kou steps in and protects him while Yashiro carries Hanako out the door, running away from the train.
  • Hanako asks her where they are going and why she came, that if only she didn't come, it wouldn't matter if Teru and Akane came to exorcise him as everything would be fine. Nene ends up slapping him and tells him that she came to see the boy she likes, telling him what has happened and that she asked Kou to help her get him out of there before Teru exorcised him. Hanako tells her that she wished to be 100 years old but she doesn't need that wish to be granted anymore breaking down and crying. Hanako apologizes and knows she wasn't going to be okay with this, he's dead, he can't continue to stay by her side and he wanted her to continue living. Nene realizes he loves her but doesn't want to get her hopes up like the Confession Tree and asks him what he means by that so that he can confess properly. Hanako tells her she's his special assistant, she's cuter when she smiles and wonders what it's like to be an old Nene. When she starts to doubt herself, he gives her a hug and tells her that he didn't care to see her again but that he is happy anyways and then he kisses her on the mouth. She replies by saying she is happy too.
  • Teru chases after Hanako when her leaves the train but Kou stops him. Teru tells Kou that wasn't what he meant when he siad to follow Nene but knows Kou already knew that but Kou says he promised to always be by Nene's side. Teru tells Kou to stop acting like a hero, admitting that hee thinks that it would be much better if Kou was at home making dinner and that Teru didn’t want him there. Kou says that Teru get weird being around supernaturals but Teru interrumpts him wondering if Kou sees him as a villain bit as an exorcist he can't be normal. Teru yells at Kou to understand that but Kou says that Teru has always distanced Kou from exorcisions, not hating it but it was still miserable. Teru was younger than him when starting to exorcise so everybody counts on him but all Kou does is replace mom aat home. Teru explains that its because Kou is weak, putting Kou down as Teru pins him to the train throwing the staff away, but says he is jealous of how weak he is. Aoi and Akane reappear together, breaking the fight up, as they walk to find Nene and Hanako with Kou walking a bit behind, thinking about how he didn't ask Teru to protect him.
  • Mist starts to gather around Kou and Teru notices, pushing Kou out of the way. No.6 appears to check out why the boundary collapse has stopped and cuts Teru’s right arm off completely, causing blood to go everywhere. He holds Teru up like a rag doll and recognizes them as part of the Minamoto family. Shinigami (No.6) throws Teru to the ground stating how weak the Minamotos have gotten as Kou holds onto him. He then tries to attack Shinigami out of grief but gets beaten instead along with Akane after getting his watch taken away from him.
  • Shinigami picks up Aoi, noticing the boundary collapse is still on hold so it wasn't because of them and tries to take Aoi to the far shore but Aoi holds up the protection charm that she was given by Teru asking why he is doing it. Shinigami responds the humans love to ask why, saying he heard it a lot back then.

Flashback

  • The scene reveals a house that is presumably slaughtered with a man asking a younger Shinigami why he isn't running which was the first time someone has asked him that question. The man was stated to be compared to lightning at the start of spring who suddenly appeared and slaughtered all the oni in the mountain in the blink of an eye. More men come to the scene and say that they poisoned the water so that the oni wouldn't move and be easily killed. Shinigami finally notices the corpses around him and recognizes one as his master.
    • The man looks a like like Kou and other men call him Yorimitsu-sama, so it is safe to assume the mystery man is Minamoto no Yorimitsu.
    • It is inferred that Shinigami's master was Shuten-douji, a very strong supernatural (Chapter 3).
  • It is shown that since he was a baby the oni were around for as long as he could remember. Since he had no concept of parents and siblings, they were the closest thing they were to one.
  • Yorimitsu tells Shinigami that he will kill him and now must loathe him, to which Shinigami replies he doesn't, since he wasn't told to do so. Since his master is dead, there is no use for him to take care of the gardens so Yorimitsu is allowed to kill him if he wanted to. Yorimitsu explains oni are born as beings who enjoy killing and causing destruction but notices Shinigami is unselfish and selfless, comparing him to a defective product while beaming at him. Yorimitsu then bites his finger, marking Shinigami's forehead with his blood and gives him a new role to work for him as "Shinigami", to which Shinigami doesn't mind.
  • Shinigami starts to work and interact with humans, helping Yorimitsu slay supernaturals as well as help with manual chores until the day Yorimitsu dies.
  • Yorimitsu's descendants would ask him to do various tasks, from patrolling the area to murder and assassination. Many people don't like him being around but must obey due to the Minamoto's wishes, including killing someone helping a kannagi escape and punishing the kannagi for escaping, telling her they must each do their jobs. He compares his duties in the village to the one he did in the mountains.
  • After some time, Shinigami is tasked with protecting the next kannagi as well as guarding her from running away, like breaking her legs, blinding her and killing those who lead her astray. They tell Shinigami that she is only six years old, so that she won't resent the Akane's later on. They suppose an oni can take care of a child and as long as she doesn't die, he can do as he pleases.
  • A young girl presents herself as Sumire and confuses Shinigami as her husband. Shinigami explains he is not, saying that she will marry God in the future to which Sumire takes Shinigami as a de facto husband as Shinigami plays along. Sumire cooks food for Shinigami to eat before going to work as Sumire sends him of with a kiss. When he arrives later, he sees Sumire cleaning the house, preparing his bath and going to sleep, making Shinigami question if its strange. Sumire, however, doesn't see it as strange because he can't do any chores like laundry, cooking or bathing and wants him to act as her husband. He asks what he should do, so she takes him to her garden and Sumire notices all the pretty flowers while reprimanding him that he should say she is prettier then all of them. Two passerby's walk by noticing them both being so carefree even though she is going to be killed but don't tell them anything. Sumire runs back to him, placing a flower crown on his head. They both then hear something and find an injured bird in the grass.
  • Many years pass, and Shinigami is walking back home covered in blood as an older Sumire greets him. She tells him to change out of his kimono as he notices how many injured animals there are. He tells her she likes taking care of them, even though most of them die and she doesn't gain anything from it. She tells him even though there is no meaning, the creatures have met a terrible fate and can no longer survive on their own. She has total control over their lives, spirits and whether they live or die is up to her which is what she likes about it. He asks why she wants control over everything and she replies she want there to be sadness and for everyone to cry, feel miserable, go crazy and go to hell.
  • Sumire is later shown slaying supernaturals with Shinigami, as it is one of her duties and everyone starts congragulating her until a rock is thrown at her head. A woman starts screaming at her to come sooner as her husband's leg was devoured and a girl's child has died, which is Sumire's fault for still being alive telling her to die already. Shinigami hits the woman leading Sumire away from them as they scream at her that they will kill her as everyone watches Sumire leave.
  • On Sumire's last night, she asks Shinigami to do one thing, to which he consents. and she asks him to elope with her. Shinigami pins her down to the floor and bumps on her head, leaving her confused as he leaves the room and tells her to go to sleep. Outside her room, he thinks to herself that if she tells him to save her she would and wonders why she can't lie or cry about it. As she jumps off a cliff, he says she is an uncute girl.
  • Later on the night of the sacrifice, everyone is celebrating as the village can now be in peace and starts planning the next sacrifice. They notice the moon at its brightest as the woman who lost her child can now walk around peacefully as well as start preparing for a festival as Shingami watches everything. He remembers Sumire's words for everyone to die and kills everyone as children look by. He starts going near them but stops and runs away, questioning himself why he did it as it wasn't for sadness, anger or hatred. People start to attack him and pin him down as he wishes he could've done or said something as he looks on to a new statue.
    • One of the children in the group looks a lot like Katakuri.
  • He starts wondering if he should have taken her hand, killed everyone in the village and abandon his duty to save her even though she never wished to live. He tells Aoi that he also wants to know why and he knocks her out.
  • Suddenly, a lightning bolt hits his back and dodges another one, noticing Kou was the one who hit him with Teru's sword. No. 6 notices he's the kid from earlier and how persistent he is as Kou tries to strike again with the sword, which he recognizes as Yorimitsu's sword. Kou explains its his brother's spirit blade and he's using it because his staff wouldn't work (because it is sealed) and the sword had a history of slaying demons so its perfect to exterminate him with. Kou marvels at the powers of the sword but the downside is is that its very heavy so his wounds hurt even more and wonders how his brother is able to wield it with one hand. No. 6 notices this and asks Kou if he is okay, bit Kou takes this as mockery and lands a strike on Shinigami's arm.
  • Shinigami strikes back punching Kou to the side of his face, knocking him down, punching him far away and stepping on him, telling Kou his bark is worse than his bite. He asks Kou why he is doing it, wondering if Aoi is really that important, if he wants payback for hurting Teru and tells Kou to go home as their power levels are completely far apart, having no interest fighting a kid.
  • This makes Kou angry and starts to attack No 6 again but Shinigami kicks him and asks if he'll die, as Kou doesn't have a strategy and will therefore die for nothing unless he wants to die. Shingami thinks someone asked Kou to kill him even at the cost of their own life but Kou denies it. He explains since he's weak and stupid nobody ever depends or needs him but doesn't care about that. Kou says he'll beat No 6, save Aoi, Teru and Akane, therefore ruining the ceremony making all the supernaturals return and reuniting with Mitsuba and save Nene's lifespan with No 6's powers but remembers Teru's words to stop acting like a hero. This prompts Kou to biting Shinigami's nose and tell him its not about their expectations or hopes but making everybody happy while stabbing Shinigami. No 6 thinks of how happiness was never asked or wished for him as Kou unleashes a huge amount of spiritual lightning.
  • Kou wonders if he finally defeated No 6, but Shinigami rises again and is about to crush Kou's face but slumps down in defeat. Kou notices Natsuhiko and is relieved to see his "master", asking what he is doing inside a boundary. Natsuhiko explains he was looking for No 6 to capture him because he stopped supernaturals from coming to the near shore, thanking Kou for his help.
  • Nene is showing Hanako a 2000 piece blank puzzle, making him question if Yashiro knows what's going on. Yashiro recaps everything that has happened since the severance and reprimands Hanako for taking her for a fool. Yashiro understands what Hanako was trying to do so she needs to change how she's been thinking about the situation, not wanting to expand her lifespan to take Aoi back to the near shore and leaving her there. Hanako wonders if Nene knows staying in a boundary won't extend her lifespan but comes to the conclusion that she doesn't care if she will die, which she agrees.
  • Hanako asks if since she's never going back to the real world, she'll stay with him together, to which she says yes, but Hanako explains the dead prefer living in the far shore so if she wants to stay, she'll have to become a supernaturals, saying that dying doesn't automatically make you into a supernatural as they are completely different beings. If the average dead person lingers in the real world or a boundary for too long, they will disappear but if they turn into a supernatural then there's no telling how much of their human self will remain. If she gets all jumbled up, she might not even be called Nene Yashiro anymore, making Yashiro ask why he would say that and starts crying. Hanako tells her she is childish, doing whatever she wants and talking about futures that are convenient for her so he won't tell her its okay for her to die.
  • Tsukasa appears and asks Hanako what he wants her to say saying that Hanako gave up on everything making things easier for himself. This shocks them both and ask where he came from, but Tsukasa says that doesn't matter as there are better things to talk about like Hanako not wanting Nene to give up even though she wants to so he can't grant her wish. Hanako tells Tsukasa he wants Yashiro to live, making Tsukasa say Hanako is selfish. Tsukasa asks Hanako what he'll do since he can't use Aoi as a sacrifice, to think long and hard about anything Hanako can do to keep Nene alive. Hanako finally responds that if he is able to destroy all the yorishiros, God will grant a wish, and Tsukasa is happy that Hanako knows that secret as well. Both of them then agree to make it happen.
  • Sakura is entering the broadcasting room and is greeted by Tsukasa, asking her if she found No 6's yorishiro. Sakura replies that she did, as it was a girl named Sumire who was wandering around so Sakura sent her back to where she came from. Tsukasa congradulates Sakura for a job well done as he was able to send Nene to No 6's boundary as well. Sakura asks if his brother was okay for sending Nene by herself but Tsukasa doesn't worry as the only thing that's left is for Yashiro to destroy a yorishiro in a human form. Sakura thinks it will be fine as its the only way to extend her lifespan as well as the only way to leave that boundary and Sumire was fine with getting destroyed so No 6 can be taken care of easily. Tsukasa makes Sakura turn to him as he explains that there are only 3 yorishiros left to destroy so that she can finally go outside, something she's wished for over a 100 years. He asks how she feels and if she is happy or regretting making a wish that would hurt something or someone, but she doesn't, stating she is happy.
  • Natsuhiko suddenly appears, pulling Tsukasa away from Sakura and tells him to go take care of Mitsuba. Sakura welcomes him back as he gives her his hand but she rejects him. Sakura asks if he did what she asked, to which he replies he did as he would do anything for her, to which she ignores. Natsuhiko knows there are 2 yorishiros left to destroy and asks what would happen if all them were destroyed but Sakura doesn't know as it has never happened. She thinks that both life and death, supernaturals, ghosts and the living would cease to exist as yorishiros protect the boundaries from the far shore but it doesn't matter to her. Natsuhiko think it would be quiet and asks her out on a date if it did happen but she reprimands him as he wouldn't exist as well. He answers that might not be true so she agrees only if that event happened.
    • It is revealed Sakura that Sakura has been around for over 100 year at the school.
    • Mitsuba is revealed to still be around near the real world even after the severance.
  • Sumire is shown back in her boundary waking up in her house when she hears a noise. She goes to investigate, wondering if it was Sakura on Shinigami but runs into Nene instead. Sumire asks how Nene has been and Nene explains she was brought there by Tsukasa as she had to destroy Sumire and that if she doesn't, she'll stay trapped in the boundary. Nene wonders what she do but promises she'll find another way out without destroying Sumire, running away to investigate the village, even though Sumire is alright with Nene destroying her. Sumire notices sherry blossoms and goes to investagate the strange occurrence near the cherry tree. There, she sees No 6 resting there and calls out the name "Hakubo".

Additional notes[]

  • As noted above, it is assumed that Kamome Academy's school year and runs from April to March. This is consistent with the cherry blossoms seen during the flashback to when Mitsuba and Kou first meet in the classroom, implying that it is spring (Chapter 20).
  • Considering Teru is 17 (according to the Volume 2 extra) and in his second year of high school, it seems his birthday has already passed, suggesting that it is somewhere between April to June. Conversely, Kou is 14 and in his third year of middle school, so his birthday is likely later in the school year (until March).
  • Throughout the series, some references are made to known or expected future events, especially in the 4PM Bookstacks and Clock Keepers Arc. These include:
    • Among the future events Nene read in the 4PM Bookstacks, some have not yet occurred, especially her first date and subsequent breakup. Also, the table of contents of Nene's book list chapters for her second and third year of high school, as well as graduation (Chapter 11).
    • Hanako has promised to tell Nene everything someday, and she will be his assistant until then (Chapter 17).
    • Akane's contract as a Clock Keeper will end when they graduate (Chapter 25).
    • When Mirai turns Kou's time forward, Akane comments that Kou looks exactly like Teru, suggesting that Mirai had aged him around two years. Although the spirit staff is still sealed, Kou is able to create a lightning cage, although he cannot maintain it as long as Teru. Akane comments that it would have disappeared in 10 seconds (Chapter 26).
    • During the study camp arc, Teru predicts that Hanako will target No.1's yorishiro someday, and that the Clock Keepers' powers will definitely be needed in the future (Chapter 70).
